What would happen if you poured wall paper paste into the toilet?

Posted by admin on February 29th, 2012 and filed under Wall paper | 9 Comments »

I have this scene in my story where my characters are playing a practical joke and pour boxes of Wall paper paste into school toilets. What would cause the most disruption into the bowl or the cistern. Thanks 4 your help.
Thanks everyone for your input great stuff.
Yes it is vandleism, but THEY think it is a practical joke and don’t worry they get punished for it.

If left to thicken in the pan it would no doubt block the drainage system, this would have no effect on the cistern other than water would overflow the bowl when flushed. But I would not call this a practical joke, more like vandalism. Sorry.

What degree do I need for a good interior design job?

Posted by admin on February 27th, 2012 and filed under Interior Design | 2 Comments »

I am trying to decide between and associate of arts degree at a local community college or a bachelor’s from the state college, but my husband would prefer not to move 6 hours away to the state college. Are there any Interior Designers who could give me info about the type of jobs I could get with an AA in interior design?

Quite honestly, when it comes to interior design, it is less about the degree you carry and more about your talents.

The ONLY thing I would really take into consideration between the two different schools are the classes they offer. If there is something in particular you would like to specialize in that one school does not offer from the next, that would be a consideration. Otherwise, as long as you have a degree of some sort, your skills and experience will have more influence over your pay scale than anything else.

Can you prime then paint over wall paper and have a nice finish?

Posted by admin on February 26th, 2012 and filed under Wall paper | 4 Comments »

I am having my new place painted, and I want to avoid the expense of Wall paper removal. Has anyone tried this? Is wall paper removal expensive?

It depends on the wallpaper. If the wallpaper is in good shape and the paint doesn’t make the edges peel then it looks fine to paint over it. The problem is that you don’t know if it’s going to peel until it’s painted. You might want to try painting a small section where a seam is located and see what happens. As for wallpaper removal, personally I charge by the hour to do that since it’s almost impossible to know how long it’s going to take. Again, depending on how well the wallpaper was put up, it can be an easy job that’s over fairly quickly or it can be a time-consuming nightmare that never seems to end. There’s no rocket science involved in removing wallpaper, if it’s actual paper then you just apply Dif (a product that dissolves the glue behind the paper) and then just peel it off. If it’s a water-proof paper then you’ll need to score the paper using a Paper Tiger (a tool that rolls over the wall making lots of tiny little holes in the paper) to allow the Dif to penetrate. Once the paper is removed you have to wipe down the walls to remove the remaining glue. There are more detailed instructions here.

What is the best wall paper paste to use?

Posted by admin on February 26th, 2012 and filed under Wall paper | 2 Comments »

I want to put up wallpaper in my powder room. Apparently I need to get Wall paper paste. Does anyone know of good wall paper paste I can buy? Also, where would I get this?

You should be fine with any paste you buy.Just make sure it is a heavy duty paste.
Your probably going to want to buy a paste brush to apply it with also. They are not that expensive BTW.
Also when pasting, make sure you cover every single edge of it,book the ends and let it sit for at least 5 minutes before you start hanging.
Also prepare to get covered in paste.
I have been hanging paper for quite a while and I still come home after a day of hanging pasted paper with clothes that are covered in it.
As far as buying it,we buy it directly from the company but you can try Lowes or H/D.If not there your going to have to find a place that sells wallpaper.
